SCRUM MASTER WITH MULTIPLE TEAMS — PSM 1 #4

Scrum master with multiple teams

How can a Scrum Master help multiple teams keep their output aligned in a single product?

  1. Teach the Product Owner to collaborate with lead developers on aligning the effort.
  2. Teach them that it’s their responsibility to work with the other teams to create aligned outputs and an integrated Increment.
  3. Collect Sprint Backlog tasks of all teams, make them consistent, and return them to the teams to work on
  4. Visit Daily Scrums and ensure that team activities are aligned

Solution :

Teach them that it’s their responsibility to work with the other teams to create aligned outputs and an integrated Increment.

The answer should be compatible with the self-organizations concept; the Scrum Master, or the Product Owner is not supposed to do anything directly in this regard; it’s the responsibility of the Development Team(s) to find their way.

The Scrum Master doesn’t manage people and cannot prevent team members from doing something and cannot order them to do certain things. She/He should always “convince” them to do the right thing by training and coaching.

Facilitation (as requested or needed), removing impediments and solving problems, training, coaching, consulting, and convincing people to do theright thing are the things we expect from the Scrum Master.

She/He is not supposed to block the team’s self-organization by giving developers orders, or deciding for them, and she/he is not supposed to do other people’s jobs (e.g. ordering the items instead of letting the Product Owner do so).
